ABOUT CHUFFY

I design T-Shirts and occasionally other artwork mostly for my own amusement. It all started out as a hobby a few years ago.

Most of my art is drawn on computer. Although I was taught to draw using a pencil and paper, the infinite flexibility of a computer paint package usually trumps more traditional methods. I do, however, keep a pencil and paper on my desk at all times because sometimes it turns out to be quicker to draft an idea using the 'old-fashioned' method.

Besides T-Shirt artwork, I have created computer game graphics which have been published in some European games magazines. A German company also sold some of my work without permission and deceitfully neglected to pay me for it. Just a heads up, this website and its contents © 2011 Chuffy. All rights reserved.

I started designing screen printed T-Shirts during the mid 90's. Back then the internet was nowhere near what it is today and neither was the printing technology. Whilst elements of some of my designs could be created on computer, I still had to mostly draw and blackout each individual colour separation by hand. These hand finished separations had to line up perfectly or the design wouldn't print out correctly. As you might imagine, a very time consuming process. If you consider all the hours I spent doing it in between my full time job, it probably turned out to be a break even hobby.

These days thanks to internet based print on demand services I can focus on the part of the job I love doing, creating the art on my computer. I'm only too glad to have left the days of hand lining in with black magic markers, although I do miss the smell. :)

ABOUT CHUFFY'S TOP HAT

You will often find a Top Hat being used as my signature or avatar. This is because the Top Hat is my favourite playing piece in Monopoly. If there is an opportunity to sneak a Top Hat into my artwork, you will sometimes see one. But don't look too hard, only a few pieces of my work feature this elegant headwear and none of my current work features a hidden hat. Yet....
